Ellijay Amateur Radio Society
Lions Club Fairground
To all Gilmer County Hams:
On June 24
and 25, the Ellijay Amateur Radio Society will be conducting its annual
field day exercise. The purpose of the exercise is to train for and
demonstrate our ability to deploy and establish emergency
communications stations for operation during disaster situations. We
will be setting up in the Ellijay Lions Club, this is the same location as last year's Fieldday, this Year's Hamfest, also where the Ellijay Apple Festival is held.
During the 24-hour period of the event, thousands of
amateur radio operators throughout North America will be participating
in this exercise. The goal is to make contact with as many other North
American stations as possible under crowded band conditions. This
simulates radio band conditions that might exist during actual disaster
In addition, on Saturday, June 24 at 6:00 PM, we
will hold our annual club cookout at the field day site. You and a
guest are cordially invited to join us for the cookout and to get a
first-hand look at our emergency station setups. You are also invited
to participate in the field day operation, set up and clean up.
The favor of a reply regarding your and a guest's
attendance at the cook out would be appreciated so we can plan our
supplies quantities for the cook out. Also, if you plan to attend to
operate tell me which station you would prefer to work with: EARS/ARES
HF SSB Station, EARS HF SSB Station, or EARS HF CW Station. If you can
help with set up, and clean up, etc.
